I read John Lewis’ autobiography for a grad school class. As a boy in rural Alabama he had to take great pains every day to get a tiny schoolhouse near the farm where his parents were sharecroppers but he made sure he attended every day, he wrote. Can you imagine being eight years old, with 0 advantages or privileges, and having that kind of drive and fortitude? Just an extraordinary man.
